Sarah Brightman’s “La Luna World Tour” was in
Vancouver during November 2000. Brightman, of “Phantom of the Opera fame”,
did an enchanting show from beginning to end.
She wowed the audience with her theatrics. She soared over
the stage, changed costumes virtually every other song and had an amazing
set. A full moon hung above the stage and the backdrop of clouds changed with the lighting
to appear to be anything from the dead of night to the break of dawn.
Her performance was comprised of a mix of her original material and
classics such as “Nessun Dorma”.
However the most memorable performance was probably
when she sang from ‘Phantom of the Opera”. It wasn’t until I
witnessed her performance of “The Music of The Night”, that I
could understand why reviewers called it the best song from
“Phantom”. However, seeing her sing it and put her whole body and
soul into it’s rendering was a beautiful experience.
The audience response to her was so strong, that she recieved
six standing ovations. It seemed that no one really wanted it to end. However
we knew it had to. When the orchestra began playing “Time to Say Goodbye”,
as a sort of signature number, everyone knew our treat was over.
It was a very worthwhile indulgence, and if you ever get a
chance to see her live, I highly recommend you do as it's a guaranteed
visual and aural treat. If you're unable to, she does have video's for both
the La Luna tour and the Eden Tour, as well as a few other concert performances.
